Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina, welcomes nominations and applications for the position of Chief Financial and Operating Officer. Embracing the school’s mission, the CFOO role requires a detail oriented, analytical, and strategic administrator with strong interpersonal skills and financial acumen to oversee the school’s financial portfolio and manage its daily operations.

An intentionally small, coeducational boarding school set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Lower Appalachia, Asheville School offers a robust educational experience that inspires curious learners to engage with a changing world with character and empathy. A school committed to supporting self-exploration, Asheville School helps students approach life with an open mindset.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer will serve on the senior leadership team and is responsible for the planning, accounting, and reporting of income, expenses, and contributed and invested funds of the school. The CFOO oversees and collaborates with staff members in the Business Office and Facilities departments. In addition, the CFOO works closely with the Associate Head of School and the Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives around campus planning and strategy. As a key member of the school’s leadership team, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer attends all Board of Trustees meetings and liaises directly with the Finance and Investment, Audit & Risk Management, Strategic Review, and Plant & Infrastructure committees of the Board.

As a direct report to the Head of School, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer will align Asheville School’s financial and institutional priorities, work strategically to support the continued growth of enrollment, and help to execute plans related to the school’s advancement and financial success. By helping establish a positive culture that promotes collaboration, flexibility, innovation, and respect for others, the CFOO will proactively drive the school to a higher level of performance, efficiency, and growth. Functionally, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer provides primary support to the Finance and Investment, Audit & Risk Management, Strategic Review, and Plant & Infrastructure Committees of the Board. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFOO leads, supervises, and manages the Director of Finance, the Director of Facilities, the Director of Human Resources, the School Store manager, and the team members for each of these areas. In addition, the CFOO oversees the outsourced contracts for security, housekeeping services, and food service.
