The Colorado Springs School (CSS) invites applications and nominations as it seeks an outgoing, energetic, and experienced leader to serve as its next Head of School. Located in Colorado Springs, the state’s second-largest metro area, CSS intentionally creates an environment where every child is challenged and explores new experiences. CSS works to provide students with an exceptional experience influenced by best educational practices and brain-based educational research. A school that prepares students for a dynamic future, CSS provides a rigorous curriculum and co-curricular programs that reflect both national and global perspectives.
The Head of School reports to a Board of Trustees and is responsible for all aspects of the school’s programs and operational functions. In addition to being a collaborative and engaged leader, the next Head of School will be an accomplished professional dedicated to innovation in experiential and student-centered education. The incoming Head of School will have the chance to identify new opportunities that will add to CSS’s institutional growth and bolster its presence in the local community and national landscape.
The Colorado Springs School is a college-preparatory day school that serves 340 students from Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade located in scenic Colorado Springs, Colorado. Established in 1962, CSS is committed to academic and personal excellence enhanced by experiential learning and global perspectives. Its programs and academic curriculum have blended tradition and innovation, providing students with a premium educational experience in southern Colorado. The Colorado Springs School is accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS) and is a member in good standing with the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS).
The Head of School serves as CSS’s chief executive officer, overseeing all aspects of its programs and operational functions. The Head of School is appointed by and reports to the Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will be a highly engaged, emotionally intelligent, and collaborative leader who deeply understands and appreciates independent school education and experiential, place-based learning communities. The next Head of School will display the highest integrity, confidence, courage, and conviction in leading CSS. An accomplished professional with honed managerial and leadership skills, the new Head of School will focus their efforts on highlighting The Colorado Springs School’s innovation in experiential and student-centered education. In addition, the incoming Head of School will identify new opportunities that will add to CSS’s institutional growth and bolster its presence among independent schools. The current Interim Head of School is Dr. Mike Edmonds, a former CSS Board Member and a retired leader, educator, and administrator at Colorado College. Mike and Interim Associate Head Ellen Crow bring years of steady leadership, expertise, and acumen as CSS prepares for the transition to a new Head of School.
