The Opportunity
The Vineyard Gazette Media Group (VGMG) is seeking an outstanding, mission-driven leader with a passion for local media and public service journalism to serve as its next Publisher.
VGMG seeks a full-time resident Publisher, with experience in both print and digital media, to manage both editorial and business functions of its award-winning weekly newspaper, the Vineyard Gazette, as well as its other media properties.
The Publisher will be responsible for both the editorial and business functions of the Gazette as well as VGMG’s other media properties. Reporting to the Board, the Publisher will lead a team of six direct reports including the Editor-in-Chief of the Gazette, the General Manager, Magazine Editor, Director of Sales & Marketing, Special Projects Editor, and Webmaster. The Publisher will have the opportunity to lead a dynamic, forward-looking local media organization with a rich history, a deep commitment to its community, and a devoted readership. The next leader will embrace the chance to be both a steward of the Gazette’s history as well as a visionary leader who will ensure the company and its publications remain relevant and sustainable amid a changing media environment and a changing Island.
About Martha’s Vineyard
Martha’s Vineyard is a picturesque island located seven miles off the coast of Massachusetts. With a total of 124.6 miles of tidal shoreline spread over six small towns and approximately one-third of protected land mass, there is not a big chain hotel to be found.
The population of the Vineyard changes dramatically from one season to the next. The year-round population is about 23,000 while during the summer months there can be more than 200,000 people on the Island. The Island’s distinctive natural beauty and vibrant culture keeps people coming back year after year. Martha’s Vineyard enjoys a very temperate climate.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $200,000 - $225,000 with a generous benefits package, including financial support for housing on the Island.
