SBP is a national disaster recovery and resilience organization dedicated to shrinking the time between disaster and recovery by reducing risk, increasing resilience, and improving the recovery process by transforming the disaster sector’s systems, policies, and programs.
To achieve their mission, SBP takes a holistic approach to disasters—increasing resilience before and streamlining recovery after.SBP (“St. Bernard Project”) was founded in 2006 by Liz McCartney and Zack Rosenburg, who came to St. Bernard Parish in New Orleans to help with relief efforts after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Since then, the organization has grown to a budget of $40+M, a team of 100+ leading systems-change level work in the disaster preparation and recovery space, including government advising, consulting contracts, training, rebuilding homes, and recovery operations in New Orleans/SE Louisiana, Puerto Rico, Houston, TX, S.W. Louisiana, Florida, and the Bahamas.

The Opportunity
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) role is an extraordinary opportunity to support the development and advancement of a unique set of solutions that, together, change how low-income communities prepare for, rebuild, and recover from disasters.
Reporting to the CEO and co-founder, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting SBP. This position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build SBP’s visibility, impact, and financial resources and work closely with the board and support them as they take on a more active fundraising role. The CDO will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
The CDO will be a visionary leader and thought partner with the primary responsibility of establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $40M+ budget. This will be accomplished through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support. The CDO will directly supervise a team of 9, including the Director of Strategic Partnerships, Director of Philanthropy, Development Manager, and National Grants Manager, all of whom work remotely.
