Bucknell University invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost. Reporting directly to the President, the Provost will be a visionary, energetic, creative and inspirational leader — with a proven track record of accomplishment and an entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit — to play a central role in shaping the success, growth and future of the University and its residential liberal arts community. The Provost is the chief academic officer of the University as well as the most senior executive next to the President. Along with the faculty, they have full responsibility for the academic mission of Bucknell.
Established in 1846 as the University at Lewisburg, Bucknell University was renamed in 1886 in honor of William Bucknell, an institutional benefactor. Bucknell stewards more than 450 acres of campus property and maintains 150 buildings, the oldest of which dates back to 1840; the newest, West Campus Apartments, were completed in summer 2023, with two more apartment buildings scheduled to open in 2024. Most students live on campus all four years, fostering a vibrant, close-knit living and learning community.
Reporting to President Bravman, the Provost serves as the chief academic officer of the University. They will lead faculty, associate provosts and academic deans in advancing the goals and mission of the University; and they will provide leadership and vision in planning, developing and implementing academic programs and ensuring the quality and growth of educational offerings and academic support functions. They will also be responsible for strategic planning; budget management; faculty leadership, development and support; promotion and tenure; scholarly and curricular development and assessment; and efforts related to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. The Provost will spearhead the development and delivery of academic programs that build upon the intersections between departments and among the University’s three colleges, while ensuring the independent disciplinary strengths of the individual academic units that form the core of Bucknell. The Provost also serves as an ambassador for the University in the Lewisburg community and across the nation, and they will engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders about the value Bucknell offers to its students, faculty, alumni and friends. They will be a positive, motivating leader with a strong acumen for building community and support among faculty, staff and students.
