In June, Shelly Weiss Storbeck, Global Education Practice Lead and Managing Director, shared a newsletter with Storbeck Search friends and followers. In addition to congratulating many of our recent placements who will start in their new roles this summer, she announced new searches and wrote:
June News, with Pride
We made it through another academic year! Along with our clients, friends, and families, we welcome the start of summer, as we continue to identify new and transformative leaders.
We also celebrate Pride month and the importance of respect and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community – on our teams, in our leadership searches, and across the education and nonprofit sectors where, as always, we are committed to making a difference.
Connection and Reflection
In May, Diversified Search Group’s full Education Practice (colleagues from Koya Partners, Diversified Search, and Storbeck Search) gathered together for the first time at our Education Practice Retreat.
Convened in Philadelphia, the retreat featured a panel discussion (with Ajay Nair, President of Arcadia University; Darryl J. Ford, Head of William Penn Charter School; and Sally Keidel, Head of The Agnes Irwin School) on higher education and independent school trends, a communication workshop, and teambuilding activities. With most of us working remotely – in all corners of the U.S. – and with the growth of our practice and the addition of new staff, this was the first time that many of us have met in person, and we made the most of it!
Sponsorships, Conferences, and Workshops
Storbeck Search | Diversified Search Group is proud to sponsor and participate in conferences, meetings, panels, and workshops in spaces relevant to education leadership.
In May, Senior Associate Jeffrey Alston, EdD, co-chaired this year’s NACE Conference and Expo. NACE’s first in-person conference since 2019, this three-day event brought together college career services and corporate recruiting professionals to network, engage with subject matter experts, and learn about leading practices.
Managing Director Ruth Shoemaker Wood, PhD, led a session at the MSI Aspiring Leaders Forum, a program developed by the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions (CMSI) that brings together mentors and prominent MSI leaders to help prepare the next generation of MSI presidents.
In June, Storbeck Search was proud to once again sponsor the LGBTQ Presidents in Higher Education Leadership Institute. In Pasadena, California, Managing Director Jim Sirianni, PhD, joined leaders from colleges, universities, and executive search firms in a panel discussion on what makes a successful search process. Additionally, Storbeck Search sponsored a session about the collaboration between higher education institutions and K-12 schools.
Also this month, Managing Director Lois Mufuka Martin is participating in the ICGS Global Forum on Girls’ Education in her capacity as a mentor and coach in the Global Mentoring Network for Aspiring Leaders. Lois’s mentees are three young women leaders at girls’ schools in the United States, South Africa, and Kenya.
In July, Jim Sirianni will facilitate an American Council on Education (ACE) workshop designed to guide college and university administrators through the experience of searching for and applying to their next leadership position in higher education.
Later this summer, I will be presenting again at the Academic Leadership Institute (ALI) Residential Program. ALI’s aim is to increase the representation of rising leaders committed to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including faculty of color, on track to becoming future presidents and provosts. I will speak on today’s challenges in the presidential search process.
We hope to connect with you at a conference soon or to meet you on your campus or in your city. If your institution is about to launch a search, contact us with your search questions or to request a proposal.
We also invite you to join our followers on LinkedIn, where we share updates on active searches, recent successes, education leadership news, and more.
With our best wishes to you for a wonderful summer,
Global Education Practice Lead
