The Wichita Art Museum (“WAM” or “Museum”) is the leading visual arts organization in South Central Kansas with the aspiration “to be a national model of excellence as a regional museum devoted to American art”.

Founded in 1935, the Museum holds the Roland P. Murdock Collection, one of the premier collections of American art. With the Edward Larrabee Barnes facility, American Alliance of Museums accreditation, $4 million annual budget, staff of approximately 24 full-time, 30 part-time, and a corps of 100+ volunteers, the museum is a public-private partnership, owned by the City of Wichita and managed by the nonprofit Wichita Art Museum, Inc.

WAM’s Mission Statement voices the museum’s commitment to proactively engage the community in conversations about the visual arts and American cultural experience. A premier American art collection, excellent exhibitions, and compelling programs reflect and respond to Wichita’s diverse audiences. With 31,500 square feet of galleries, the Museum deliberately offers a wide spectrum of art on display, eager to inspire the imagination and learning of every visitor. Annual attendance is roughly 80,000 and growing, as is the 12,000+ art collection.

The Museum is poised for another chapter of impact, enabled by the successful. tenure of its Director, Patricia McDonnell, has established a wealth of staff and volunteer talent, community engagement, partnerships, a fully-vested Board of Trustees and a broad base of donor support. The next Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will have the unique opportunity to build on this success.

The Director and CEO acts as the primary spokesperson and represents the Museum as it engages with local cultural organizations, educational institutions, political bodies, civic groups, and the media.
