St. Louis Children's Hospital is seeking a Vice President of Ambulatory and Clinical Support to oversee operations of clinical programs.Founded in 1879, St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) is one of the premier children’s hospitals in the United States and recognized in the top 10% of pediatric hospitals nationally by U.S. News & World Report.  The hospital provides a full range of pediatric services to the St. Louis metropolitan area and a primary service region covering six states. As the pediatric teaching hospital for Washington University School of Medicine, the hospital offers nationally recognized programs for physician training and research. SLCH has 402 licensed beds, which includes 56 pediatric intensive care beds, a 122-bed newborn intensive care unit, and a 16-bed pediatric bone marrow transplant unit.

St. Louis Children’s Hospital has undergone significant growth in recent years, including a recent hospital expansion. The 222,000 square ft. expansion spans 12 stories and added 96 private pediatric beds and 40  private NICU beds connected to the labor and delivery area.

The St. Louis Children’s Specialty Care Center is an outpatient facility in west St. Louis County focused exclusively on providing the best care for young patients. At the Center, Washington University Physicians and St. Louis Children’s Hospital pediatric nurses and staff bring nationally recognized expertise to children and families, in an environment completely dedicated to kids and teens. A second Specialty Care Center in St. Louis South County is scheduled to open in Fall 2021.

Position Overview

Reporting to the President of St. Louis Children’s Hospital, the Vice President for Ambulatory and Clinical Support oversees operations of clinical programs including Labs, Pharmacy, Radiology, Emergency Services, Admitting (liaison with system), Call Center, Physician Services and Ambulatory Care Services. The Vice President will set financial, long-range, operational and leadership direction for responsible department(s) in conjunction with the President. This leader will develop and execute departmental strategies and guide departmental and organizational transformations needed to reach financial, service, leadership, regulatory and community objectives. The Vice President will be responsible for selecting, directing, and developing staff, as well as representing hospital, service organization or department(s) to external authorities and constituencies.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Ten years of healthcare administrative leadership experience.
  • Comfortable working in a complex, matrix organization; able to lead a mixed clinical and administrative staff.
  • Proven ability to lead large scale change and prioritize the implementation of multiple projects across a complex, matrix organization.
