The Vice Chair Clinical Operations position at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TXUT Southwestern is an academic medical center, world-renowned for its research, widely respected for its teaching and training, and highly regarded for the quality of clinical care its faculty provides to patients at UT Southwestern University Hospitals & Clinics and its affiliated hospitals. The Medical Center has three degree-granting institutions: UT Southwestern Medical School, UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and UT Southwestern School of Health Professions.  The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides services at facilities across the UT Southwestern Medical Center campus, including UT Southwestern University Hospitals, Parkland Memorial Hospital, and Children’s Health℠, as well as the VA North Texas Health Care System. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation faculty are actively involved in both clinical and basic science research in the areas of burn injury, pain and spine, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, stroke, and electrodiagnostic medicine. The PM&R Residency Program at UT Southwestern offers clinical experience and research opportunities in addition to didactic coursework. There is a balance of outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation experience, including subspecialty rehabilitation programs and electromyography.

Position Overview

UT Southwestern is undergoing a clinical transformation as the University expands into new hospitals and develops integrated services and referral centers.  The Vice Chair position will oversee the delivery of innovative, effective, and patient-centered neurology clinical services across hospital and clinic sites. The Vice Chair for Clinical Operations will be responsible for all Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation clinical operational activities and functions within the system. S/he directs all patient care and clinical support functions within the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The Vice Chair is responsible for the overall operation and growth of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation clinical services in conjunction with their administrative counterpart. S/he will Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures, in conjunction with the administrative counterpart, and establish long-range objectives and monitor the financial performance of the clinical service in conjunction with the administrative counterpart. Furthermore, the Vice Chair ensures effective, efficient, and cost-effective use of clinical resources in order to maintain a productive environment. S/he will provide direction to holds accountable, develops and evaluates clinical staff in their performance of all goals and objectives of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the UT Southwestern system. The Vice Chair regularly evaluates the effectiveness of the Department’s clinical organization and implements changes as necessary to promote strategic and operational effectiveness based on appropriate performance metrics for quality, financial performance, productivity, etc.


  • MD/DO and board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
  • Texas state medical licensure or eligibility.
  • Five plus years of leadership experience in a physical medicine and rehabilitation program of a major academic health care organization.
  • Proven background in clinical care optimization, quality, safety and patient engagement.
  • Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and networking skills.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Demonstrated analytically and financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated competence in written, oral and electronic communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing outstanding clinical care, quality and service to patients and referring providers.
