About the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee
Founded in 1894 and headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) serves as both the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee for the United States. The USOPC is focused on protecting, supporting, and empowering America’s athletes, and is responsible for fielding U.S. teams for the Olympic, Paralympic, Youth Olympic, Pan American and Parapan American Games, and serving as the steward of the Olympic and Paralympic movements in the U.S.
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the USOPC is one of the only National Olympic/Paralympic Committees in the world that does not receive government funding for its Olympic and Paralympic programs (other than for select Paralympic military veteran programs), instead relying on the generous support of a committed community of donors and sponsors. Increasing philanthropic support for U.S. athletes is one of the USOPC’s highest strategic priorities. Hence, the organization has established the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation (USOPF) as the fundraising organization for the USOPC and is investing significant resources in its Development division.
Relying on the generosity of the American public to help U.S. athletes remain competitive with the rest of the world, our nation stands apart from others – our Olympic and Paralympic Teams are not just cheered by an enthusiastic national fan base but funded by one. The Olympic and Paralympic Games 2028 to be held in Los Angeles offer an extraordinary opportunity for public engagement and further growing the base of philanthropic support and revenue. A long-term, moonshot goal of the USOPC is to attain 1 million U.S. households (less than 1% of all U.S. households) each giving $50 to $100 in support of Team USA athletes.
Amid this backdrop of prospective transformational public engagement and philanthropic growth, the USOPC seeks candidates for the newly created role of Vice President of Annual Giving & Digital Fundraising (Vice President). The Vice President is a key member of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the USOPF’s annual giving program, including the Team USA Fund (TUSAF), Team USA Giving Circle, and all associated fan engagement and consumer marketing strategies associated with the 2028 comprehensive fundraising campaign. The TUSAF serves as the broad base of the USOPF’s philanthropic giving programs, while the Team USA Giving Circle serves as the mid-level program bridging between TUSAF and the major gifts program. While generating unrestricted support, the TUSAF and Giving Circle provide an entry point for fans to become donors and help to identify prospects who can give at a more significant level. The Vice President will ensure annual revenue goals are met and that both programs align strategically to advance a deeper donor pipeline for the USOPF.
Reporting to the USOPC Chief Development Officer/USOPF President, the Vice President manages both the TUSAF and Giving Circle program teams to achieve sustainable increases in donor participation and philanthropic gifts available to support the USOPC’s highest funding priorities. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and assessing short and long-range plans for achieving programmatic goals; setting and monitoring the annual giving budgets and expenditures; motivating, coaching, and evaluating team members; and playing a key role in the Foundation’s comprehensive fundraising campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Vice President of Annual Giving & Digital Fundraising will be at the vanguard of advancing systemic organizational change that will foster fundraising growth and will be a key thought partner to the Chief Development Officer. They will prioritize team building and positioning for unprecedented expansion of the annual giving program (which currently secures $4-5 million annually), over time shifting a largely direct mail-oriented donor base to digital platforms. Annual giving initiatives will benefit from tremendous program visibility and high-level organizational partnerships related to LA 2028, thereby communicating the power of sports on a national scale and deepening the American public’s powerful connections to Team USA.
While the USOPC will consider a broad range of backgrounds, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications/experience:
– Passion for the Olympic & Paralympic Movement and deep, nuanced appreciation of the power of sport.
– Twelve to 15 years of successful fundraising experience in a nonprofit environment, with a focus on annual fund programs and digital fundraising, including expertise in fundraising metrics and benchmarks. Deep experience in developing digital fundraising strategies and infrastructure, including donor acquisition and conversion, data analytics, market segmentation, and testing experience. Must be knowledgeable of current trends and how the application of best practices can increase the donor base and net revenue.
– Strong ability to lead teams in developing creative and innovative strategies and translating those strategies into tactical execution that produces measurable results.
– Demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts and meeting significant revenue goals with the ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external constituents.
– Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and maintain a multi-faceted, geographically diverse, and high-performing team. Track record of effective recruitment, motivation, leadership, and team development, while setting strategic direction, establishing goals, benchmarking, and shared accountability, as well as working cross-departmentally when necessary to achieve results. Experience with developing and managing budgets and revenue forecasts.
– Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of how to build diversity, equity, and inclusion in the development function; culturally competent with respect to issues such as racial, cultural, religious, sexual, and gender identity. Skilled at delivering solutions in evolving, multi-cultural environments.
– Proven ability to build relationships to advance and implement a long-term strategic vision that fosters charitable giving.
– Experience partnering with senior organizational leaders and board members to help drive strategy forward while making significant impact.
– Proven ability to translate complex organizational funding needs into compelling fundraising appeals across all broad-based channels and programs, then executing against those plans to achieve goals and objectives. A forward thinker with a track record of utilizing new methods of constituent engagement and connectivity.
– Ability to motivate peers, direct reports, and volunteers to reach goals.
– Proven skill in analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategies.
– Bachelor’s degree.

This is a hybrid role that will have the flexibility to work remotely and from the organization’s Colorado Springs Downtown Headquarters.
