The University of Pittsburgh invites nominations and applications for the position of Chancellor.

Founded in 1787 as the Pittsburgh Academy – in a log cabin – the University of Pittsburgh is one of the nation’s oldest institutions of higher education. With an enrollment of more than 38,000 students, the University constitutes a diverse community of scholars, learners, partners, and leaders dedicated to a common cause: the pursuit of knowledge. A member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), Pitt is internationally respected as a center for learning and research that supports the needs and interests of its students and more than 13,000 faculty members, research associates, and staff members. The University of Pittsburgh is composed of 16 undergraduate and graduate schools, including nationally recognized schools of health sciences, engineering, law, business, education, and arts and sciences. The University comprises five campuses, including the 132-acre Pittsburgh campus in the Oakland neighborhood. The University’s four regional campuses are located in Western Pennsylvania in Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown, and Titusville. In 2021, the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings again named the Pittsburgh campus as “the No. 1 public university in the Northeastern United States.” The University has also been ranked 9th in federal science funding, 5th in faculty NIH grants, and 20th for public education in the U.S. Pitt’s worldwide network of more than 320,000 alumni proudly champion the University and the greater Pittsburgh community.

The next Chancellor will personify the University of Pittsburgh’s fundamental values, including: the highest levels of integrity and empathy; a dedication to creating and nurturing a diverse and inclusive community; a deep respect for—and strong support of—students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and community members; a drive for creating sustainable, accessible higher education; and a visionary and strategic approach to servant leadership that addresses the challenges and opportunities facing higher education in the decades to come. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor will lead the University and serve as the primary advocate for its interests, particularly the importance of creating an outstanding student experience and supporting and advancing the scholarly endeavors of faculty. The next Chancellor will govern the progress of the University by identifying and advancing goals and priorities, managing its $2.6 billion operating budget, carefully stewarding its $5.6 billion endowment, and collaborating across all internal and external constituencies to inclusively advance the University’s strategic initiatives.
