Planned Parenthood of Michigan is seeking a passionate and collaborative CEO who will provide strategic leadership and direction for all facets of the organization, including ensuring the quality of programs, best-in-class delivery of patient-centered care and education, and enhancing an equitable organizational culture.

Organization Overview

For nearly a century, Planned Parenthood of Michigan (PPMI) has provided reproductive health care services in Michigan. Today, PPMI has grown to a statewide affiliate with over 14 health centers around the state, 200 employees, and an operating budget of $22M. PPMI provides a wide variety of medical services and education programs to over 40,000 patients annually and leads advocacy initiatives across the state. Parenthood of Michigan promotes and protects every person’s freedom and right to enjoy sexual health and well-being, to make reproductive choices, and build healthy, strong families.

The Position

Reporting to the affiliate’s board of directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will work with the board and staff to ensure that the delivery of services and initiatives are integrated through a lens of equity, and are effective in supporting the organization’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives. This leader will provide high-integrity strategic leadership and direction for all facets of the organization, including embedding equity, best-in-class delivery of patient-centered care and education, ensuring the quality of programs, and enhancing healthy and inclusive PPMI culture.

Internal priorities include collaborating with the board to develop the PPMI strategic plan, and building alignment and support for a strategic plan among staff and other key constituents; fostering a culture of equity and belonging for all staff and patients; leading the implementation of initiatives to support continued financial stability, improvements in quality of care, and expansion of services that take into account the diverse regional needs of the affiliate; partnering with staff and leadership to ensure cross-department collaboration and the successful running of day-to-day operations.

External priorities include fortifying trust and collaboration with PPMI’s external stakeholders and promoting PPMI’s work and brand in the funding and political communities. The CEO will partner closely with PPAM’s Executive Director on all things related to Planned Parenthood’s work within Michigan related to policy, advocacy, and political relationship building.

Key Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will bring a combination of the following qualifications to the work:

  • Passion & Mission Alignment: A natural advocate with a demonstrated passion for the reproductive rights movement and/or other health equity or progressive movements, either in a working or voluntary capacity.
  • Commitment to DEIB: A record of successfully managing and developing a diverse and talented staff. Strong commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and the intersection with health and social, reproductive, and racial justice.
  • Relationship Building, Partnerships, & Fundraising: A skilled leader in managing and building trusted and productive partnerships with the community, donors, and political leaders. Has played a key role in philanthropic engagement and fundraising.
  • Visionary Leadership: Experience as a thoughtful and progressive leader who leads with a bold vision, future-orientation, and executive leadership in rapidly changing and complex environments. Comfort being a visible spokesperson for a politically charged organization.
  • Staff & Professional Development: Experience developing staff and teams across all facets of the organization. Knowledge of best practices employed for change management, recruitment, and retention of high performing teams. Has successfully implemented an organizational strategic plan.
  • Clinical Operations & Finance: Ability to represent and manage a complex healthcare organization. Must demonstrate the ability to lead and partner with clinical staff and leaders in operational and financial decision-making, crisis and risk mitigation and management.
