OUS plays three roles in joint efforts with Oxfam country offices, affiliates, allies, and partners all over the world to deliver on our key pillars of our strategy:

  • Advocate. We use our access to governments, corporations, multilateral institutions, and influencers to leverage change. Our advocacy is grounded in the priorities of partners and allies and in lived experience of communities paired with research and analysis. We mobilize our supporters to create change.
  • Connect. We use our reach and access to convene unlikely allies to negotiate differences and create new opportunities for change. We connect dots, analyzing trends to inform collective action. We connect US supporters to Oxfam’s global work so they can bring their resources – voices, money, and ideas—to bear.
  • Amplify. We help the voices of people and communities experiencing marginalization be heard by the powerful and the public. We engage and support the agendas of our partners and allies with our capacities, expertise, and access. We do not accept US government funding and instead build broad-based independent support.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly qualified Director of Digital Marketing & Supporter Engagement who will develop, plan, implement and manage the overall digital supporter engagement strategy aimed at increasing revenue and organizational impact for our advocacy goals. The Digital Marketing & Supporter Engagement team devises digital marketing strategies (email, social media, paid advertising, marketing automation, and web promos, etc.) that enable Oxfam America’s multiple public engagement and mobilization initiatives (both virtual and in-person).

The Director of Digital Marketing & Supporter Engagement will report to the VP of Public Engagement with a matrix reporting line into VP of Resource Development. The Director oversees 9 FTEs on the team, with 3 currently vacant. They will coordinate with other members of Public Engagement Leadership Team (PE division management team including Content, Design, Media & PR); Director of Marketing Strategy and other Resource Development marketing staff; Associate Director of Constituent Product team and other tech/dev staff; Humanitarian Director and other Global Programs staff; Director of Campaigns and other campaign leads; Chief Financial Officer, Oxfam International peers in Digital Engagement and Marketing teams.

This position is based out of the Boston or Washington, DC offices. While employees will have flexibility to work from home or in the office, we are limited to applicants who will reside in MA, CT, ME, NH, NY, RI, VT, NJ, WVA, NC, VA, DE, PA or MD.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an energetic and adaptable fundraising and grassroots campaigning strategist with a deep understanding of digital marketing strategies, platforms, and data-informed audience segmentation. The candidate should enjoy promoting multiple issues in an integrated way to supporters in service of multiple goals – building brand awareness, advancing policy change and program impact, and fundraising from new and existing donor audiences. They should have strong project management and relationship management skills as they will directly manage a team of nine and collaborate with multiple stakeholders – media leads, campaigners, fundraisers, policy advisors, our digital consultants. They should have extensive experience with digital transformation processes in support of fundraising and advocacy goals. At Oxfam America, they will be working with multiple VPs and consultants to think through the right model and structure to support the digital strategy. This is an opportunity to build and mentor a Digital team, provide strategic direction on supporter engagement up, across, and down with Oxfam staff and motivate our audiences to fight inequality to end poverty and injustice.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Digital strategy and transformation: Set vision, strategy and direction for Oxfam America’s annual digital marketing strategy and plan across all digital channels, with support from digital consultants, and grounded on organizational objectives and agreed priorities across leadership and matrixed teams and channels. Lead digital transformation process engaging consultants and internal stakeholders in process to build team structure and adapt other structures in line with building a sustainable and successful digital program.
  • Budget / revenue planning and oversight: Manage digital budget and investments in collaboration with VP PE and Resource Development Leadership including with digital advertising strategies that generate leads, drive advocacy and fundraising, and build brand.
  • Staff / vendor management: Manage and oversee 9 digital staff, and digital vendors and consultants, in order to manage email, ads, social media, digital analytics and reporting.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual campaign planning: Coordinate with colleagues across Public Engagement, Advocacy, audience managers and the Constituent Product team in Resource Development, and Humanitarian teams to enable integrated constituentcentric campaigns and messaging across digital platforms on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis to grow and retain our supporter base (donors and activists) and set clear strategic digital priorities across all teams and digital channels.
  • Execution oversight: Manage brand, messaging, and marketing strategy coherence and quality control across all digital marketing channels and in collaboration with other communications and marketing work such as earned media, direct mail, Face to Face fundraising, SMS, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7-10+ years digital marketing work experience, with an emphasis in either agency or nonprofit marketing and public mobilization
  • 5 or more years of experience managing a team of more than a half-dozen staff members
  • Demonstrated experience with digital transformation and organizational development.
  • Proven track record of using digital advocacy and fundraising strategies to grow an organization’s followers, impact, and fundraising
  • Demonstrated ability to lead campaigns, in collaboration with others, that engage supporters in current events and the ongoing public conversation
  • Substantial experience in email strategy and campaigns, social media campaigns, digital advertising, and analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally in a highly collaborative, multi-issue organization where Digital Marketing supports multiple business needs
  • Proven project management, including financial management, in a high-pressure work environment
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks, prioritize, work independently, and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
