MYSI Corporation (“MYSI”) was founded by a group of Methodist Men with an initial focus to eradicate homelessness by providing shelter care, temporary housing, and community-based case management support for ‘at risk’ youth, adults, and families who had no or limited housing resources.

MYSI’s vision is to be recognized for enhancing the quality of life in Chicago inner cities and surrounding suburbs through responsive, efficient, and quality programs and services.

The programs offered by MYSI promote independence and the prosperity of individuals, families, and communities, by serving individuals from “infancy to the golden years” within and outside of Illinois.

  • Transitional Living Housing Programs provides supportive co-ed housing assistance, clinical case management support, therapeutic intervention services, educational/employment support, 24-hour advocacy assistance, group/individual counseling, community activities, and developmental disability services.
  • Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is a juvenile intervention program that involves the coordination of services that reduce recidivism, enhances case management services, fosters independent education, facilitates prevention support to reduce gang/criminal activities, and provides mentoring/counseling opportunities.
  • Independent Living Option Program (ILO) offers parenting & non-parenting support, case management services, 24-hour crisis assistance, budgeting & housing guidance, postsecondary education support, and counseling & community services.
  • Bridges Supportive Group Home provides therapeutic residential care, family reunification counseling, stabilization case management services, and facilitates recreational activities & weekly support groups.
  • Community Mental Health Services (CMH) is a clinical psychology & psychiatry program that offers community-based supportive referrals, psychological/psychiatry management, assessments/evaluations, nursing support & medication monitoring, therapeutic Intervention & stabilization support, and Medicaid counseling/case management services.

The Opportunity

As the organization enters its next chapter, the next Executive Director (“ED”) will lead the MYSI Corporation to achieve even greater levels of strategic influence, impact, and innovation. The ED will provide overall management of the market including development, programs, operations, facilities management, purchasing, and budgeting for a budget of approximately $4-$5 million.

As a strategic thought leader, the ED will capitalize on a strong growth trajectory and help shape how MYSI reaches and impacts the Chicago community. As an effective and inspirational communicator, the ED will cultivate and expand corporate, foundation, individual, and family funding. The ED will steward relationships with the Board of Directors, partners, and all community constituents, champion the MYSI brand, and engage the community in new and exciting ways to increase donations in order to enhance its services.

In collaboration with the Board and senior leadership, the ED will develop and implement short and long-term strategic planning for MYSI, ensuring that budget, staff, and market priorities are aligned with MYSI’s core mission and deliverables. The ED will also play a leading role in determining programmatic direction, carefully evaluating opportunities for new programs and ensuring satisfaction with current programs.

The key responsibilities of the ED include:

Community Partnership

  • Cultivate a close relationship with the congregations and members of the Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church.
  • Train and support staff in networking with other service providers.
  • Maintain contacts with political leaders and public agency policy makers.
  • Lead efforts to positively influence decisions that affect children and families.
  • Interpret trends in child-care to the Board and staff.

Organization Administration

  • Carry the primary professional leadership responsibility for the total program, staff, and those who it serves, assuring proper support of clinical professional staff.
  • Provide overall supervision of the fiscal management, including preparation and management of the annual budget.
  • Provide oversight of day-to-day affairs of the agency and protect agency against unnecessary risk, maintain insurances, provide for policies and procedures to be followed and comply with applicable law.
  • Manage senior staff to protect agency from risk and oversee management practices.

Partnership with the Board of Directors

  • Help the Board of Directors to assume their role and responsibilities to develop resources to fulfill the mission of the agency.
  • Maintain a system of reporting program outcomes and other key information to the Board and other organizations or groups related to the agency.

Staff Management

  • Provide for the recruitment, employment, orientation, and general supervision of all agency personnel with the framework or personnel practices.
  • Hire senior management team to lead MYSI to next chapter.
  • Serve as a role model that reflects the values and mission of the agency.
  • Direct Supervisors and evaluate all senior administrators reporting to the ED.
  • Facilitate sufficient training and support to all staff to assure optimal professional development.
  • Assure proper clinical leadership and consultation to guide therapeutic services provided by the agency.

Program Oversight

  • Develop innovative programs and services for youth and families at risk.
  • Implement procedures to evaluate the outcomes of services provided by the agency.
  • Assure adherence to quality assurance requirements as a Medicaid Clinical Provider.
  • Assure effective decision-making regarding changes in programs.
  • Assure effective client relationships in all agency programs.
Candidate Profile

The Executive Director of MYSI will possess the following attributes and competencies:

A Strategic and Visionary Leader

The ED will be a strategic, visionary, and results-oriented leader who is experienced at articulating and implementing a long-term strategic plan. The ED will inspire the staff and Board to see where the ED could, and should, be going and lead the organization forward in a collaborative manner. While embodying the qualities of a visionary leader, the ED must also be grounded in strategic, results-driven work. The ED will be an intelligent self-starter and finisher who is resourceful and entrepreneurial, while staying team-oriented. This leader will bring deep experience running a highly effective organization with an emphasis on excellence in finance and operations, assuring that MYSI’s financial oversight is of the highest caliber. Finally, the ED must be willing to work across the MYSI community to foster a strong sense of purpose and unity amongst the staff, clients, and Board.

A Relationship Builder and Fundraiser

The ED will have the character and confidence to work comfortably in a highly visible role and to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents. This leader will work tirelessly to build rapport and promote MYSI with its constituents and partners. The ED will have the skills to articulate the vision of the organization to its supporting community, attracting new and diverse partnerships. This leader will have familiarity with a wide range of fundraising channels, including individual giving, organizational funding partners, and foundation support. The ED will cultivate and grow relationships to strategically increase MYSI’s private funding and donor base. This leader will have an inspirational approach to building collaboration and buy-in and generating support for the organization, continually innovating to help expand brand recognition and organizational capacity. As the lead external voice of the organization, the ED will be able to work effectively with diverse populations and will be a recognized leader in the community.

Business-Oriented and Operational Leader

This leader will demonstrate the ability to diagnose critical areas for attention, and implement clear, action-oriented strategies that address challenges that may arise for MYSI. The ED will be able to set priorities, delegate responsibilities, assure accountability and allocate resources to ensure results. This leader will have extensive experience in retaining, building, and leading teams of the highest degree of professionalism and guiding team members’ growth and development. The successful candidate will ensure fiduciary responsibility, sound financial management practices and accountability. Action-oriented and adaptable, the ED will have an ability to develop innovative approaches to problem-solving and day-to-day operation.

The ED will be an individual of unquestioned integrity, ethics, and values; someone who can be trusted without reservation.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be combination of base salary and bonus with the target of $175,000.
