Position Overview

The Medical Director,Critical Care will oversee more than 70 ICU beds and a staff of 16 board certified Intensivists. Apply within! NGHS is anchored by Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s four hospital campuses – NGMC Gainesville, NGMC Braselton, NGMC Barrow and NGMC Lumpkin – with a total of more than 700 beds and more than 1,100 medical staff members representing more than 50 specialties.

NGHS seeks a strategic and visionary Medical Director for Critical Care to join its growing team to serve both administratively and clinically. The Medical Director will help develop strategy, ensure programmatic growth, and recruit and develop staff. This leader will be expected to foster a culture of clinical excellence, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and mutual support within NGHS.

The Medical Director, Critical Care serves in the dual capacity of Administrator and Intensivist, actively participating in the development and management of all medical ICU units in keeping with the hospital’s mission of improving the health of our community. The Medical Director has authority over all aspects of the medical ICU program and the care provided to the patients treated there.  Along with the Administrative Director, the Medical Director is responsible for overseeing the clinical, administrative and financial components of the program and works to continually provide high-quality, cost-effective care to medical ICU patients, in accordance with recognized standards and guidelines for Medical ICU.


  • An MD/DO degree with board certification in Critical Care Medicine.
  • Ability to obtain an active medical license in the state of Georgia.
  • Unrestricted DEA Registration.
  • Eligible to be (or currently) a member in good standing of NGMC Medical Staff.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a medical director of critical care medicine practice
  • Leadership training such as CPE or advanced degree such as MMM, MBA preferred
  • Additional certification in areas of heath care quality, patient care utilization or process improvement is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and implement change.
  • Demonstrated analytical, teaching and research skills.
  • Demonstrated work history of positive collegial relations with medical staff, nursing and ancillary staff, administrators, patients and families.
  • Eager to lead a growing Critical Care team.
