Position Overview

Sunflower Health Plan, Kansas, and Centene Corporation are seeking a Medical Director of Behavioral Health to assist the Chief Medical Director in guiding and coordinating the medical management, quality improvement and credentialing functions for the business unit. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officers for Sunflower Health Plan, this leader will be involved in quality improvement, medical policy development, and utilization management. This position offers the unique ability to be part of the organization’s nationwide center of excellence for behavioral health while being part of cutting-edge changes happening in the field.  In addition, Centene offers all physician leaders the ability to maintain a portion of clinical practice within the state.

Note: The Medical Director needs to work in the state of Kansas, but Sunflower Health Plan is flexible on the location within the state.


  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
  • Current state medical license without restrictions.
  • The candidate must be an actively practicing physician.
  • Experience treating or managing care for a culturally diverse population preferred.
  • Expertise in clinical and treatment, with experience in treating addition.
