Position Overview

The IHA Chief Executive Officer is a physician who has broad administrative, policy, and leadership responsibilities within IHA, the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System’s (SJMHS’s) regional operating structure, and Trinity Health. The IHA Chief Executive Officer represents IHA to external organizations and is responsible and accountable for executive leadership and operational direction of IHA. He/she links closely with the IHA Chief Medical Officer, President and Chief Operating Officer, EVP and Chief Financial Officer, and the entire medical-administrative team. The IHA Chief Executive Officer also works closely with the IHA Governing Board (IGB) and the IGB Chair to develop strategic, financial, and operating priorities and to execute against established goals, in keeping with IHA’s priorities as well as Trinity Health’s people-centered 2020 Vision. The IHA Chief Executive Officer is an influential leader within the SJMHS regional operating structure. Within SJMHS, the Chief Executive Officer works closely with members of the Regional Executive Team including Hospital Presidents, System leadership and other key physician leaders and executives. Within Trinity Health, the IHA Chief Executive Officer maintains a strong relationship with the Senior Vice President of Trinity Physician Network Operations.


  • MD or DO degree required, Master’s Degree in Business or Health Administration or leadership training through ACPE or other such organization preferred.
  • Valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine.
  • Minimum of five years in physician group practice setting.
  • Must possess a knowledge of operations of complex healthcare organizations, medical staff relations, insurance products/health plans and have broad understanding of changing concepts in healthcare.
  • Understanding and commitment to quality improvement and the tripartite goals of improving outcomes, satisfaction with care, and reducing the cost of caring for populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a large group practice or health care organization.
