Education: We collaborate with outstanding schools in underserved neighborhoods to provide opportunities for students to reach their full potential. We also develop programs that provide aspiring and practicing k-12 teachers with opportunities to strengthen their instructional expertise and connect to vibrant communities of educators.

Environment:  We fund constructive solutions to stabilize the climate by reducing warming emissions.

Local and Investigative Journalism: We sponsor reporting that holds institutions accountable in order to sustain a healthy democracy.

The Opportunity

The program manager will join a small team working across the foundation’s issue areas. Program managers have responsibility for leading at least one major foundation priority, including delivering recommendations to the board. They also conduct research to build the foundation’s knowledge base, identify new organizations to support, and work closely with grantee partners.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct deep landscape research to source new proposals and identify the best pathways for Hollyhock to have impact
  • Build trusted and collaborative relationships
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative due diligence on potential grantees
  • Support grantees by effectively processing, administering, and monitoring grants and providing advice
  • Prepare reports, analyses, presentations, and other documents for the Hollyhock board
Candidate Profile
  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in a relevant field; graduate training and previous experience in nonprofits preferred
  • Strong interest in the foundation’s mission and focus areas, particularly education and journalism
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • High intellectual curiosity; desire to explore new ideas
  • High emotional intelligence; track record developing and managing relationships with a diverse range of people, experiences, and constituencies
  • Impeccable integrity; tactful and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to thrive on a small team in service of the founders’ priorities

This position reports to the executive director and will be based in New York, NY. It will require occasional travel around the U.S. From April 2022, team members will work in the office.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive salary, opportunity for performance-based bonus. Compensation includes comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, 401K, vacation, and family and medical leave.
