About the role:

The Executive Medical Director, Ambulatory will be responsible for the performance of medical and dental staff in the delivery of clinical care while providing physician leadership for the coordination of clinical programs and the development of strategic planning for Children’s Health System of Texas (CHST) ambulatory clinics. This role will be responsible for quality in the Ambulatory setting, establishing a vision for quality and patient safety and developing, implementing, and overseeing strategies and initiatives aimed at eliminating preventable harm while providing consistent high-quality care.  The Executive Medical Director, Ambulatory will work collaboratively with the executive administrative teams across CHST, clinical partners and UTSW and community physicians. In conjunction with executive and operations leadership, this position will:

  • Defines clinical strategies and program growth for Ambulatory.
  • Provide medical oversight and leadership to ensure the delivery of the highest quality patient care while following the mission and goals of the institution and the JPE.
  • Oversees day-to-day clinical operations along with the development and implementation of key innovative clinical and quality programs.
  • Collaborate with hospital and medical leadership to refine and implement clinical strategy and program growth initiatives.
  • Ensure that the ambulatory medical leadership infrastructure is aligned with and sufficient to meet operational and strategic goals.


  • Medical Degree (MD, DO, or equivalent) and board certification in pediatrics or a pediatric subspecialty; Utilization Management Certification (CPHM), Certified Professional in Health Care Quality (CPHQ), or other healthcare management certification preferred.
  • At least 10 years of medical and administrative leadership experience in the pediatric clinical setting.
  • Proven track record of creating and or implementing comprehensive transformation plans in pediatric ambulatory settings.
  • Ability to translate strategic priorities into operational reality; align communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems to ensure that strategic priorities yield measurable and sustainable results.
  • Depth in establishing and committing to a long-term business direction after considering clinical and financial data, resources, market drivers, and organizational values; anticipate and respond to shifts within the market, technology, or policy environment that influence the delivery, management, and financing of healthcare.
  • Background identifying and driving organizational and cultural changes needed to adapt strategically to changing market demands, technology, and internal initiatives; catalyze new approaches to improve results by transforming organizational culture, systems, or products/services.
