Position Overview

The Erlanger Heart and Lung Institute opened on the renovated fourth floor of the Baroness Hospital building in 2018. The all-new, $16 million hospital-within-a-hospital focuses on world-class integration of cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, structural heart care and pulmonology. Erlanger Health System seeks a Chief of Cardiology and Co-Director of the Erlanger Heart and Lung Institute. This person will ensure clinical excellence, with responsibility for all professional, financial and administrative activities within Cardiology. Functional responsibilities will include human resource management, operations management, strategic planning, financial management, and marketing, outreach and development.

In 2018, Erlanger Health System had revenues of nearly $1 billion, an increase of 13 percent over the prior year, and the fifth consecutive year of revenue growth. Since 2013, Erlanger has generated over $100 million in net income that has been invested in new facilities, technology and talent. Erlanger Health System and its academic and operating partners generate more than $3 billion in regional economic impact.


  • Board certification in appropriate specialty, eligibility for licensure in the State of Tennessee, and ability to meet institutional credentialing requirements.
  • Prior leadership experience such as a Director, Division Chief, Section Chief, or clinical leader in a fully integrated program or an academic medical center.
  • Excellent strategic planning skills with a blend of clinical and business savvy to facilitate strong relationships among administrators and physician leaders across departments and disciplines.
  • Demonstrates political savviness, preserving key program interests and working collaboratively for the betterment of Cardiology and the organization.
