The Louisville-based not-for-profit system includes five Louisville hospitals with 1,837 licensed beds, seven outpatient centers, 13 Norton Immediate Care Centers, more than 13,000 employees, more than 750 employed medical providers, and approximately 2,000 total physicians on its medical staff.

Position Overview

Norton Healthcare is seeking a Director of Surgical Services for Norton Brownsboro Hospital.  The hospital currently stands at 127 beds, but a major construction project is underway that will expand the facility to 197 licensed beds.  Additionally, the system is adding six operating rooms, which will bring the total to 20. The hospital sees approximately 9,500 surgical cases plus an additional 4,000 endoscopies annually. Norton Brownsboro Hospital functions as an academic medical center.  It is a certified comprehensive stroke center and offers an orthopedic fellowship program.

The Director, Surgical Services will be responsible for serving as a role model and example of integrity while upholding the Norton Healthcare values, standards, policies, and procedures. This individual will be responsible for developing a strategic and directional course for assigned departments that corresponds with Norton Healthcare’s Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will provide leadership and supervision to staff members and will be responsible for the overall direction and management of surgical services, as well as facilitating the development and delivery of excellent clinical practice and services for the patient population served.


  • Three or more years of management in an acute care setting.
  • Master’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Registered Nurse.

Preferred Experience

  • Five or more years of surgical Services Director level experience
  • Comprehensive Stroke Center program experience.
  • LEAN Process Improvement Strategies experience.
  • Knowledge related to new constructions standards from design through completion;
  • Sterile processing experience
