Grant Cooper is seeking a Director of Multiple Myeloma Research for the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center.Cancer is the top strategic priority at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). The Cancer Center is comprised of more than 250 cancer research scientists and physicians at MCW, Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Clement Zablocki VA Medical Center, and the BloodCenter of Wisconsin, and has an ambitious plan for growth, including achieving NCI-designation. The MCW Cancer Center occupies 30,000 sq. ft. of space dedicated to cancer-related basic science research and an additional 50,000 sq. ft. at the Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center in the MCW medical complex. The MCW Cancer Center serves over 2 million residents in an eight-county area, ensuring that the people of Southeastern Wisconsin have access to nationally recognized physician scientists, the latest research-driven treatments, and cancer clinical trials.

MCW is the only academic medical center in Southeastern Wisconsin, a distinct region that includes large underserved minority populations with significant disparities in cancer incidence and outcomes. This includes 83% of Wisconsin’s African American and 63% of the state’s total minority population. Over 280,000 residents in the catchment area (14%) are below the poverty line. Cancer Centers in Madison and Chicago, each 75 miles away, do not reach this underserved, poor, urban population, making MCW Cancer Center the only academic cancer center accessible to these communities.

Position Description

The MCW Cancer Center invites applications for a faculty position at the Full Professor level in the area of multiple myeloma research. The applicant will be expected to develop and maintain a nationally funded multiple myeloma research program aligned with major ongoing research efforts in the Hematological Malignancies, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, or Cancer Biology research programs of the MCW Cancer Center.
