Position Overview

The Director must maintain a comprehensive, long-range system-wide view of Geisinger’s strategic plan as it relates to Endocrinology care delivery. The Director will assume responsibility for leadership of Endocrinology care delivery throughout the system. In this role, the Director will work cooperatively with Clinical Operational Leadership in the Medicine Institute, designated operational leaders in Community Practice, as well as the leadership of Geisinger.

The Director is responsible for the quality of care and clinical services provided by all members of the Division. Clear, measurable performance standards will be developed, consistent with the principles and responsibilities outlined by Geisinger. The Division Director must demonstrate clinical excellence and maintain the respect of the Associate staff that he/she will lead. The Division Director’s performance will be reviewed by the Chair of Medicine Specialties and/or Chair of the Medicine Institute annually, with a formal written evaluation.

The Division Director must clearly and effectively articulate the goals, mission, issues and values of Geisinger to his/her Associates and the employees who work within their areas of responsibility. In addition, the Director must effectively communicate the opinions, concerns and suggestions of the Associates to the Chair of Medicine Specialties and/or Chair of the Medicine Institute. The Director must identify and develop opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of patients served by Geisinger.

The Director, Division of Endocrinology is appointed by the Chair of the Medicine Institute with the approval of the Chief Medical Officer. Final approval requires the successful completion of the appointment process required for all members of the Clinic.


  • An MD or DO degree with American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) board certification with a subspecialty certification in Endocrinology and an unrestricted state medical license.
  • The Director maintains current board certification in Endocrinology and possesses prior experience in managing or directing a clinical Endocrinology unit.
  • Previous leadership experience and five year’s clinical experience in Endocrinology.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to advance and develop a superior clinical service.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences, in group settings or one-on-one.
  • Expertise in establishing physician relationships combined with the ability to manage an interdisciplinary team while appreciating and fostering collegial and peer participation from all disciplines.
  • Effective supervisory skills, including clinical mentoring and coaching expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience with capital/operating budgets and an understanding of the challenges facing academic medicine.
