About Child Care Aware of America

Child Care Aware of America (CCAoA) is a national nonprofit organization that works to advance a high-quality affordable and equitable child care system that supports children’s growth, development, and early education. For the past 35 years, CCAoA has been the nation’s leading voice for child care; working to advance a child care system that effectively serves all children and families.

CCAoA’s work is strengthened by a national network of more than 400 child care resource and referral (CCR&Rs) agencies and other partners in 47 states and the District of Columbia. Members of the CCAoA network have access to professional development, career & networking resources, and other tools & resources.

In addition to its member-facing work,  CCAoA leads projects that increase the quality and availability of child care, conducts research, and advocates for child care policies that positively impact the lives of children and families. CCAoA also provides child care assistance for military families through Fee Assistance and Respite Child Care Programs that have served more than 150,000 families and worked with more than 60,000 child care providers over nearly two decades.

The Opportunity

In 2023, CCAoA will welcome its next leader as part of a planned succession to current CEO Dr. Lynette Fraga, who has successfully led the organization for more than a decade.

A critical juncture for CCAoA, the CEO role is a rare opportunity to take the helm of a leading organization at the forefront of the conversation about child care in America, and steer it into its next chapter of impact.

The CEO will work in partnership with the Board, child care leaders, CCR&Rs, parents, and other key partners to develop a strategic approach to achieve the organization’s goals of impact and advance its mission. A key aspect of this role will be embracing and executing on the 2023-2025 Strategic Plan.

Building on the momentum of past few years, the next CEO will step in at a time when the organization is incredibly strong and well-positioned for ongoing and significant impact, with exceptional staff and a solid financial footing.

The CEO reports directly to the Board and leads a staff of nearly 200. The Executive Team consists of the following: Deputy Chief Executive Officer; Chief Development Officer; Chief Financial Officer; Chief of Impact & Engagement; Chief Information Officer; Chief of People & Culture; Chief of Policy; and Chief of Programs. Additional members of the Executive Office reporting directly to the CEO include the Senior Leader of Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion and the Director of Executive Initiatives.

The role is based at CCAoA’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
