Grant Cooper is seeking a leader experienced in the development of cancer programs to serve as the Administrator of the GHS Cancer Institute in Greenville.The Greenville Health System (GHS) Cancer Institute was established in 1978 and offers the region’s most comprehensive adult and pediatric cancer services with 60 oncologists and 10 locations throughout the Upstate of South Carolina. It is among the largest academic comprehensive cancer care programs in the region with $400 million in net revenue and 173,000 visits annually. GHS’s Cancer Institute is a National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) and has been awarded $6.7 million from the National Cancer Institute to conduct clinical trials and research studies. GHS has over 300 active cancer trials. GHS is home to one of the nation’s newest medical schools – the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.

Position Overview – Administrator

The Administrator, in partnership with the Cancer Institute Medical Director, is responsible for developing, planning and directing the activities needed to ensure the long-term success of the GHS Cancer Institute. The Administrator is responsible for creating an environment that engages hospital system leadership, service line managers, employees and physicians in accomplishing the Cancer Institute goals. S/he maintains overall responsibility for the operation and activities of the Cancer Institute except those activities directly involving the practice of medicine. In addition, s/he drives the Cancer Program objectives to ensure financial performance through short and long range planning in order to achieve and maintain sustainable profitable growth. Finally, The Administrator supports and adheres to the GHS Standards of Behavior and ensures the Cancer Institute complies with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.


  • Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Management, or related business field.
  • Minimum ten years of experience including P&L responsibility for a cancer delivery organization with at least $100 million in net revenues.
  • Experience in a matrixed management environment.
  • Experience developing programs within a cancer center setting.
  • Proven leadership, managerial, and team building skills.
