Tenure Track Genitourinary Medical Oncologist
The Mays Cancer Center and UT Health San Antonio seek a Genitourinary Medical Oncologist to join their growing and flourishing program.
The Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, is the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Texas, covering a 38-county service area extending to the border with Mexico and a population of patients that is 69% Hispanic. The Mays Cancer Center is led by Executive Director, Ruben Mesa, MD, who joined the organization in 2017 from Mayo Clinic with an esteemed research and publication record.
Oncology programs at UTHSA are experiencing rapid growth and exciting new opportunities. Mays Cancer Center recently entered into partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center, and UTHSA has just broken ground on a new $430M specialty hospital that will open in 2024 to offer specialty care in cancer, orthopedics, urology, and thoracic and bariatric surgery. The eight-story, 144-bed facility will be connected by a sky Bridge to the Mays Cancer Center. This will also be the site of early phase clinical trials, including immunologic and stem cell therapies for cancer in the future.
UT Health San Antonio and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center created a strong clinical and research affiliation in 2017 that has provided increased access to MD Anderson’s treatment protocols, standards of care, extensive clinical trials and translational research in San Antonio. Patients also have access to the MD Anderson model of patient-centered, comprehensive care provided by multidisciplinary teams that will provide a new dimension in innovative care and treatment options. This partnership also offers exciting academic collaboration and mentorship opportunities across the two institutions.
UT Health San Antonio, part of The University of Texas System, is the major source of health professions education and life sciences research in South Texas and is a major center for patient care in South Texas. The Health Science Center is composed of eight campuses across San Antonio and South Texas. It has 4.5 million square feet of owned and leased facilities for education, research, treatment and administration. The University employs approximately 5,400 full-time faculty and staff and has a budget of approximately $806 million.
The ideal candidate will offer:
- M.D. with board certification in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, specialized expertise and desire to focus on genitourinary medical oncology.
- Academic accomplishments and credentials sufficient to qualify at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher at UT Health San Antonio. Graduating fellows are welcome to apply for the role.
