Empower was founded in 2013 as empowerHER©, a grassroots effort in a small coastal Massachusetts town to bring teenage girls who had lost their mothers together on Mother’s Day. Today, Empower has grown into an international nonprofit with their sister organization, empowerHER UK. empowerHER was rebranded in October 2023 to Empower, serving all children of parent loss.
Empower offers a range of year-round programs and activities provided at no charge to the family. Empower provides a unique one-on one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help show children that loss is survivable. Empower’s events are designed to remind us that we are never alone in our grief and these events are nontherapeutic, community-based, and volunteer-driven.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing, high impact nonprofit as its inaugural Executive Director (ED) at a time when the CEO & Founder is transitioning to a board-level role. Empower’s new ED will lead staff, board, and partners to help Empower continue achieving its goals into this new chapter and beyond.
The ED will build on Empower’s strong reputation and expertise in leading the only mentor program in the world for kids in grief as well as longstanding support from a wide variety of partners and funders, and help chart a course for growth and expansion.
