Summary of the Opportunity
ArtsWestchester is seeking a dynamic and visionary CEO to lead the organization in its next phase of growth. Much more than a regional arts council, ArtsWestchester is one of NY State’s largest arts and culture organizations, serving a diverse community of one million residents and multi-millions of visitors.
The next CEO inherits a solid foundation from which to grow. Strong finances, close working relationships with Westchester’s affiliate arts organizations, a collaborative partnership with county government, an active Board, and a brick-and-mortar arts center/headquarters in downtown White Plains are just a few of the tools that will go into the new CEO’s toolbox.
ArtsWestchester is an organization that has accomplished much, with ample opportunity to do much more, and the resources available to make that happen.
About ArtsWestchester
ArtsWestchester is built on the belief that the arts are for everyone. Powered by a world-class Board and deeply committed staff, the organization works to ensure the accessibility and diversity of the arts, at every level, for every resident and visitor in Westchester County. ArtsWestchester supports the arts in Westchester through leadership, funding, programming, education, advocacy, audience cultivation, and professional development.
In its capacity as Westchester County’s regrant agency, ArtsWestchester has fostered the development of an extensive, robust, diverse, and inclusive nonprofit cultural sector in Westchester County that includes major institutions; conservatories and discipline-based schools; multi-arts centers; professional and community theatres and orchestras; and grass-roots arts activities and artists. For many local cultural organizations, ArtsWestchester is their single most significant source of financial support. Moreover, ArtsWestchester’s scope extends to cultural institutions steeped in the humanities, libraries, youth-serving programs, fraternal organizations and the tourism sector.
ArtsWestchester also owns and operates a historic, mixed-use cultural facility in downtown White Plains, where its headquarters is located. This building is located just one city block away from one of the organization’s most significant constituents, the Westchester County government. It also serves as a meeting space and banquet hall for Westchester’s arts and business communities. The upper floors buzz with creativity. The building is home to artist studios, a rehearsal space utilized by local theater companies, arts-related businesses, and additional gallery space.
The Opportunity
Building on ArtsWestchester’s storied history and track record of developing and stewarding creative experiences in its communities, the next Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of ArtsWestchester will provide visionary and strategic leadership to guide the organization’s continued growth, relevance, and impact. As its most public ambassador, the CEO will represent ArtsWestchester across New York State and in the broader arts and philanthropic communities nationally.
Working with and overseeing a team of 26 full-time staff members, the CEO will provide ultimate leadership and oversight of strategy, programs, fundraising, events, advocacy efforts, finances, and operations. The CEO will serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of ArtsWestchester as it engages with local artistic and cultural organizations, artists, educational institutions, donors and funders, policymakers, civic groups, businesses, the media, and the public. In support of its grantees, affiliates, partners and the broader arts community, ArtsWestchester also serves as a convener, coach, connector and capacity-builder.
