Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (EBI) is an independent PreK-8 school that offers a multilingual, international education that inspires students to engage with a changing global world with character and empathy. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in the heart of the East Bay of California, EBI helps students engage as global citizens and critical thinkers. EBI welcomes nominations and applications for an experienced and thoughtful educational leader to serve as Interim Head of School effective August 2023. The Interim Head of School will lead EBI through a transitional year while a new Head of School is selected to begin July 2024.

Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (EBI) educates approximately 370 students and has two California campuses located in Oakland (Alcatraz campus, grades PK-1) and Emeryville (San Pablo campus, grades 2- 8). Guided by the International Baccalaureate (IB) tenets that promote inquiry, respect, and understanding among an array of diverse learners, Escuela Bilingüe Internacional is the only Spanish-English bilingual IB independent school in Northern California. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INTERIM HEAD OF SCHOOL | LAS RESPONSABILIDADES DEL DIRECTOR INTERINO DE LA ESCUELA
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Interim Head of School will guide EBI through a transitional year as it prepares to welcome a new Head of School in July 2024. They will work collaboratively with a passionate and dedicated community of educators to continue to advance EBI’s mission. The Interim Head will work with EBI’s senior leadership team to ensure the needs of faculty, staff, and students are being attended to during the transitional year. They will also help prepare the community, and provide necessary counsel, as the new Head assumes their role.

The ideal candidate for EBI’s Interim Head of School should possess many of the following qualifications and characteristics:
- Alignment with EBI's mission, core values, and strategic goals
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, yet decisive, leadership style
- A high level of cultural competence and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in their approach to the work and in building relationships with students, faculty, and other community members
- Demonstrated commitment to building community with a focus on healthy and positive relationships
- Proactive, hands-on leadership, strong problem-solving skills, and initiative
- Willingness to listen and hear all members of the EBI community as they navigate a transitional year
- High emotional intelligence, along with warmth, energy, and enthusiasm
- Genuine passion for working with adolescents, coupled with a sense of humor and inspirational character
- Demonstrated success in organizational leadership and fiscal and risk management, especially in an educational or nonprofit setting
- Ability to recruit, lead, cultivate, encourage, and retain EBI’s senior leadership team, faculty, and staff through a transitional year
- Dedication to collaboration, transparency, and accountability as a leader
- Ability to identify areas of growth and communicate those areas to the Board of Trustees
- Previous experience working in independent school or nonprofit leadership with a track record of innovation and increasing responsibilities
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)/Bicultural skills preferred but not required; all are encouraged to apply
- Master's degree or equivalent
The anticipated salary range for this role is $300,000 - $400,000 with a generous benefits package that includes a housing allowance.
