The University of Denver (DU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Senior Vice Chancellor (SVC) for Business & Financial Affairs and University Treasurer.
Founded in 1864, the University of Denver (DU) is a private, doctoral-granting university with very high research activity, earning R1 status in 2022. DU enrolls approximately 6,100 undergraduate students and 7,500 graduate students. The University has become increasingly known, nationally and internationally, for its creative, 21st-century approaches to problem-based scholarship, as well as its holistic, student-centered approach to learning known as the 4D Experience, and its dedication to the public good through local, national, and international partnerships. The University has total annually budgeted revenues of $540 million and total endowment assets near $1 billion as of March 2023. In FY 2022, the University raised $105 million in annual giving commitments. FY 2022 sponsored research expenditures exceeded $41 million.
The Senior Vice Chancellor for Business & Financial Affairs and University Treasurer will serve as the Chief Financial Officer of the University and report to the Chancellor, along with having an independent reporting relationship to the Board of Trustees on matters relating to the monitoring and control of the University budget. The SVC’s responsibilities include the oversight of all accounting systems and processes, the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Provost, financial reporting and analysis, the internal audit function, and the preparation of the annual audited financial statements in coordination with the external auditor. Additionally, the SVC has oversight for the balance sheet and treasury function of the University, including cash management, debt capacity and structure, rating agency relationships, fund reserve policies and use, endowment payout analysis, and working capital and cash flow planning. The procurement of real estate, acquisition of property, and maintenance of facilities are managed by the SVC in conjunction with the appropriate Board of Trustees committees. The SVC will work closely on these treasury functions with the University’s financial advisors, Investure, the DU Investment Manager and Investment Office, and the Board of Trustees. This individual will be the primary staff link to the Finance and Budget Committee and the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees and oversee the following units: Controller’s Office, University Financial Services, Facilities Management & Planning, budget development and integration in coordination with the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC), Internal Audit, and Policy Development & Management. The SVC has five direct reports, a total staff of approximately 330 full-time equivalent benefited employees, and manages a budget of more than $67 million.
