About Millbrook School
Incredible natural beauty defines Millbrook School’s campus, located 90 miles north of New York City (Dutchess County) in the lovely countryside of the Mid-Hudson Valley region. Its rural 800 acres contain rolling hills, forests, wetlands, playing fields, trails, and the campus proper. Built around three quadrangles, the campus is reminiscent of a traditional New England village, with the Flagler Memorial Chapel at its head and red brick and white clapboard buildings throughout. Primary facilities include nine dormitories, Schoolhouse, Casertano Hall (dining), Mills Athletic Center, Holbrook Arts Center, Frederic C. Hamilton Math and Science Center, Anthony House (alumni & development), Pulling House (head of school’s residence), the Barn (student center, college and business offices, and counseling center), Callard House (admission & communications), and the six-acre Trevor Zoo.
Millbrook School remains committed to fostering a rich academic and co-curricular environment where every student thrives and has the tools necessary for a successful college experience. Specifically, its mission states, “In a community where every student is known and needed, Millbrook prepares its students for college and lives of meaning and consequence by instilling the values of respect, integrity, stewardship, service, and curiosity.” The strength of Millbrook's academic program exists not only in the quality of its offerings or the ability of its teachers but in the attitude and ethos that characterize the exchanges between faculty and students.
Millbrook School classrooms are places where respect for one another and the free exchange of ideas and opinions are the most prized commodities. Within a traditional, rigorous college preparatory course of study, Millbrook students are encouraged to be curious, involved, and active learners, for the teachers with whom they work understand that the success of any educational pursuit lies in the vigor and commitment that students bring to it. The acquisition of knowledge and skills, though critical to the school’s mission, is but one component of a Millbrook education. The abilities to read effectively, write clearly, and think independently are of greatest use when students challenge themselves, listen carefully to their classmates, test their own limits, and question their assumptions. This philosophy truly shapes the Millbrook School experience.
