The Better Government Association is a non-partisan, nonprofit news organization and civic advocate working for transparency, equity and accountability in government in Chicago and across Illinois.
Under the leadership of President and CEO David Greising, the BGA has furthered its reputation as one of the region’s most respected sources of investigative reporting and most trusted voices for good government. The BGA has consistently broken major stories in the public interest and has won numerous awards for its journalism. In 2022, reporters from the BGA won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on Chicago’s long history of failed building-and fire-safety code enforcement.
As the BGA enters its next century of impact, it is embarking on an ambitious effort to strengthen local journalism, deepen public engagement, and improve government. It has recently launched the Illinois Answers Project website, an investigative and solutions-focused news outlet that features content from the BGA and an array of publishing partners. The website is the public-facing centerpiece of an ambitious new initiative called the Illinois Solutions Project.
The BGA seeks an experienced Vice President of Development to help fuel the important work ahead by strengthening and expanding its fundraising operations. This leader will be responsible for setting and executing a strategic development plan that ensures the strategic identification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors, as well as building the fundraising operations and managing a small core team who will deliver on this plan.
This position is based in Chicago and is a hybrid role with three days per week on site.
The salary range for this position is $165,000 to $195,000 depending on experience, and the BGA offers health, dental and vision insurance, a 401k plan, and PTO.
