The Director of Human Resources Opportunity
Our team is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to provide strategic leadership and oversight for all HR functions, ensuring a workplace culture that supports high performance, inclusion, and professional development. With a broad span of influence, they will work across Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits, and Staff Training and Development and collaborate with leadership throughout the organization. Managing a team of two, the Director will develop new or refine existing policies, procedures, and systems, ensuring effective and values-aligned support to our team. The Director of Human Resources and their team will also act as key points of contact for our 120+ employees throughout the organization, allowing us to maximize staff engagement, contribution, and satisfaction. The Director will report to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and will serve as a member of the Senior Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of organization-wide plans, providing strategic as well as functional expertise, thought leadership, and coaching as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team
- Establish departmental objectives aligned with our organizational goals and identify opportunities to refine our HR practices to ensure our standing as an employer of choice
- Manage the HR team toward high performance, establishing appropriate goals and work plans and providing effective coaching and support
- Develop and implement programs that ensure we embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds and promote the full development and performance of all employees
- Play a leadership role on our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access Committee
- Lead full-cycle talent recruitment and management, including:
- Developing staffing strategies to cultivate talent both within and outside the organization, working in collaboration with an HR team member focused on recruitment
- Overseeing employee onboarding, training, performance management, and leadership and career development programs, partnering with employees and supervisors throughout the organization
- Provide support and consultation to staff on HR policy and supervision practices
- Develop and manage compensation and benefit programs, including job descriptions and classifications, salary structures, and salary adjustments, and ensure alignment with the recommendations of our current equity-focused compensation audit
- Oversee benefit plan communication, enrollment, and administration
- Maintain effective compliance with laws and regulations related to HR and manage relationships with legal and compliance agencies
- Lead employee relations, including:
- Recommending employee relations practices necessary to foster positive employer-employee relationships and promote high employee morale and motivation
- Working with leadership to develop and document appropriate personnel policies related to affirmative action, sexual harassment, employee safety and wellness
- Partner with the Finance Department to ensure accurate and timely submission of information required for payroll and benefits processing
Candidate Profile
Strong candidates for the Director of Human Resources role will demonstrate many, though perhaps not all, of the experiences, skills, and characteristics described below:
- You bring 10+ years of relevant experience as an HR professional and demonstrate broad knowledge in recruiting, employee relations, training and development, organizational planning and development, employment law, and compensation.
- You have demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and continuously evaluating HR policies and systems that support the mission, values, and goals of an organization and adhere with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- You bring past experience both directly managing staff and advising supervisors/managers on how to build and support high performance among their teams.
- You are experienced in building strong professional relationships, demonstrating high levels of integrity and respect, sound professional judgment, and the ability to engage and relate with a highly diverse employee base.
- You demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of employees delivering critical front-line services to highly vulnerable populations, demonstrating compassion, care, and a commitment to upholding organizational values.
- You possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills and are able to problem-solve in situations that require balancing multiple perspectives or priorities.
- You are a skilled communicator, with strong verbal and written skills. Spanish language fluency is considered a benefit but is not required.
- You come to your work with flexibility, a sense of initiative, and openness to change, and are able to prioritize your work and uphold a high level of customer service in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
- You possess strong computer skills, ideally with experience implementing or administering effective HRIS.
- You hold a bachelors’ degree or equivalent professional experience. A master’s degree in a relevant field and/or SHRM certification are considered a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role is expected to be between $95,000 and $105,000. Our benefits package includes medical and dental coverage, a 403(b) with a 5% employer match, and 4 weeks of paid vacation, among other offerings.
