Chief Executive Officer
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION.
About VTDigger
VTDigger.org, Vermont’s award-winning digital news site that is a model for nonprofit news across the country, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead its 30-member reporting and administrative staff as it embarks on an exciting new chapter of growth.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vermont Journalism Trust Board of Trustees, the CEO will be responsible chiefly for strategic and financial leadership—namely, growing operating revenues—in order to sustain and secure Digger’s reputation as a valued and preeminent news source. In addition to overall strategic leadership and revenue generation for a $3.7 million-dollar operation, the CEO’s responsibilities include: developing an annual budget; managing relationships with both union and nonunion staff; recruiting and retaining a diverse and inclusive team; and overseeing back-office technological systems integral to digital production. The Editor-in-Chief and Chief Revenue Officer of VTDigger will report to the CEO.
Crucially, the CEO will serve as VTDigger’s public ambassador inside and outside the state to communicate Digger’s vital mission to produce rigorous journalism that explains complex issues, holds government to account, and engages Vermonters in the democratic process. Already a vital part of Vermont’s civic life, with more than 615,000 monthly unique visitors, VTDigger is poised to expand its news coverage, its digital products and its audience to continue to serve the public.
