Role Summary
The Managing Director (MD) is responsible for winning executive search and/or consulting engagements, representing DSG Global effectively internally and externally, and executing to the highest standards of quality. Successful candidates will bring an entrepreneurial, service-oriented mindset, grounded in intellectual curiosity and perspective, in addition to the ability to generate revenue and serve as a partner to CEOs, Board of Directors and Leadership Teams.
The MD will secure, execute, and close executive search and consulting mandates for clients, driving business development and delivering successful outcomes for clients. A proactive, detail- oriented, and resourceful leader, the MD will excel in managing relationships, projects, and teams. They will possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
With a proven background in business development and a passion for developing long term partnerships with clients, candidates and colleagues, the MD will possess strong interpersonal capabilities in addition to being a strong people and project manager.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Strategy & Vision
- Develop and execute on a strategy for cultivating potential clients and achieving ambitious business development goals
- Monitor client, market, and competitor activity to inform strategy and provide feedback to firm leadership team
- Participate in leadership meetings to develop best-in-class recruiting and human capital services and products and identify opportunities to maximize efficiencies and deepen team impact
- Collaborate with fellow MDs on DSG’s strategic priorities
- Identifying prospects for Managing Director and Associate roles within the firm
- Enhancing the firm’s reputation by providing exceptional service to clients and by presenting as an industry leader at conferences and throughout various media platforms
Business Development & Partnership Cultivation
- Generate a minimum of $1M in annual sales
- Identify and pursue opportunities for business development through leveraging client and candidate networks and referrals
- Steward strong client relationships and participate in closing strategic opportunities
- Travel for in-person meetings with customers clients and develops key relationships
- Consistently deliver high levels of client service, including thought partnership, accessibility, and the timely delivery of all related deliverables
- Serve in a consultative role to clients regarding strategic hiring decisions and organizational development, leveraging the expertise of our Executive Search teams to support the development of client talent practices
- Work closely with marketing to establish successful programs to support the business development pipeline
Portfolio & Team Management
- Lead a portfolio of client engagements and provide effective and diplomatic leadership in a complex, matrixed environment
- Setting clear expectations for each search with the Associate, Search Coordinator, and Research Associate and providing on-going direction as needed to ensure high quality and timely deliverables
- Ensure detailed and accurate business development forecasting for pipeline as well as data related to client and potential client interactions
- Consistently meet or exceed benchmarks and metrics for efficiency and quality
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a deep passion for the social impact sector. Additionally, Managing Director’s will possess the following skills, qualities, characteristics and competencies:
- 10 - 15 years of experience in executive search, talent consulting or a related field with a proven track record in leadership, business development, and client engagement.
- Deep industry expertise in the nonprofit and social impact sector
- Proven ability to advise organizations on recruiting top talent (S/VP level and above) and aligning talent strategies with business objectives.
- Strategic advisory capabilities in areas beyond recruitment such as leadership development, succession planning, and organizational design.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen with a track record of identifying and capitalizing on business opportunities, driving revenue growth, and delivering value-added solutions.
- Self-motivated and results-driven with the ability to independently manage complex projects and drive multiple initiatives to completion.
- Experienced team leader skilled at managing high-performing teams through motivation, mentorship, and collaboration.
- Ability to act as an advisor and engage effectively with C-suite clients.
- Entrepreneurial mindset excelling in fast-paced, detail-oriented environments and making sound decisions.
- Client and project management expertise, consistently delivering high-quality outcomes and exceeding client expectations.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Strong interpersonal abilities to build trust-based relationships with clients, candidates, and stakeholders.
- Flexible and responsive, able to adjust to shifting priorities
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation for this role is formula-based and dependent upon business development. Managing Directors can anticipate an annual draw in the range of $150,000-$175,000, coupled with additional commission based on the individual’s execution. The compensation package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k match, and generous PTO including sabbatical time and parental leave, as well as short- and long-term disability, life insurance, and FSA.
