Program Director, General Surgery Residency
Position Overview
The NGMC General Surgery Residency Program welcomed its first class of six categorical residents in 2019. NGMC offers six ACGME accredited residencies: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, and Psychiatry; in addition to a newly established Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship. By 2024, all six specialties could host more than 200 total resident physicians, which would make the program one of the largest in the state of Georgia.The Program Director will provide leadership and oversight of the General Surgery Residency Program to ensure efficient and effective operations consistent with NGMC's mission, vision, objectives and policies. Working effectively with the DIO, the Program Director will ensure the program's compliance with all institutional accreditation expectations, obtain necessary support and resource allocation for the program, and personally participate in the institution’s Graduate Medical Education Committee. This position provides an exciting and historic opportunity to lead the development of this new General Surgery Residency as the GME program continues to expand.Qualifications
- Graduation from accredited allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO) medical school
- Completion of an accredited residency program in an acceptable specialty area
- At least three years of participation as an active faculty member in a General Surgery residency program; graduate medical education administrative experience preferred
- Current specialty certification by the American Board of Surgery, or specialty qualifications that are acceptable to the Review Committee
- Demonstration of scholarly activity in peer-reviewed funding or publication, presentation at professional and scientific society meetings, or participation in national committees or educational organizations
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia
