UT Health San Antonio seeks an inaugural Director, Advanced Heart Failure to join the cardiology program. This role will report to Allen Anderson, MD, Chief of Cardiology and Director of the UT Health/University Health System Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Anderson recently joined the organization after serving as section chief for heart failure and cardiac transplantation at Northwestern University in Chicago. The Janey and Dolph Briscoe Division of Cardiology is one of twelve divisions in the Department of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio’s Long School of Medicine. The division offers a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program, with leading experts in the specialty areas of Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Heart Failure, Cardiac Imaging, Peripheral/Vascular Medicine, Congenital Heart Disease and Women’s Heart Disease.
University Health System (UHS) flagship facility, University Hospital (UH) includes a Level I Trauma center with over 700-beds, maintains Nursing Magnet Status, ACC Chest Pain Center accreditation, and Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention accreditation. UHS has committed to investing nearly $40M in a major expansion of cardiology clinical facilities at University Hospital (UH). Cardiology patients are housed in the new Sky Tower of UH with a capacity of some 84 total ICU and ACU beds. The planned construction of a new bed tower will facilitate even further expansion of Cardiology and HVI services.

The Health Science Center is composed of eight campuses across San Antonio and South Texas. Qualifications:
- MD, or equivalent degree with fellowship and ABIM board certification in Cardiovascular Disease and heart failure.
- Academic accomplishments and credentials sufficient to qualify at the rank of Associate Professor at UT Health San Antonio.
- Successful record of research, teaching, clinical, and administrative accomplishments in the field of heart failure.
- In-depth knowledge and ability to effectively lead physicians, researchers, and educators, while also growing the scholarly activity of the Division
