Division Chair and Medical Director, Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry

Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center: Department of Psychiatry, is seeking candidates for a mid- level academic psychiatrist to serve as the next Division Chair and Medical Director of its Adult Ambulatory Division. The position will be responsible for overseeing psychiatric clinical care across the spectrum of adult ambulatory services. The Division Chair will be looked upon to build and grow clinical, research, and academic programs of excellence, innovate, and to foster collaborative relationships between the department and our clinical partners, the community we serve, and the academic medical center.
The selected applicant will be responsible for the operation and growth of the Department of Psychiatry ambulatory services in conjunction with their administrative counterpart and the Department Chair. Leading the advancement of psychiatry ambulatory care services by building programs of excellence, implementing new services and models of care, and growing existing programs to meet the needs of our patients and community. Evaluating the effectiveness of the Division’s clinical organization and implement changes as necessary to promote strategic and operational effectiveness based on appropriate performance metrics for quality, financial performance, productivity, etc. Developing and maintaining effective liaison with management, physicians and leaders in other departments, patients, and employees. Creating a clinical environment that encourages and supports all facets of medical education and clinical research. Providing outstanding clinical care. Responsible for establishing, in collaboration with the Department Chair, a proactive program for recruitment and retention of physicians, APPS, licensed therapists, and staff into the Division.
Qualifications
Interested candidates must be a Virginia licensed or eligible MD/DO with clinical training in Psychiatry and certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Proven background in clinical care optimization, quality, safety and patient engagement. Demonstrated academic and clinical leadership experience in a psychiatry program at a major academic healthcare organization. Leadership experience should include clinical practice oversight, strategic planning, direct faculty/provider oversight, managing staffing and recruitment, fostering of clinical research, and faculty and trainee mentoring. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. Experience fostering and leading medical education programming that supports, develops, and mentors the next generation of clinical and scientific experts in adult ambulatory Psychiatry. Demonstrated track record of active participation in multidisciplinary clinical programs focused on patient-centered care. Academic credentials and experience to qualify for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at VCU School of Medicine. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
