Troy Riddle
Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer
Natural Resources Defense Council

Koya | Diversified Search Group partnered with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) on its Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer search. Our work resulted in the placement of Troy Riddle, a thought leader with decades of experience championing diversity in the academic and legal space.
NRDC works to safeguard the earth – its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. NRDC combines the power of more than three million members and online activists with the expertise of some 700 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild.
Troy A. Riddle joined NRDC as the organization’s first diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) officer in August 2020, ready to lead more than 700 staff members through NRDC’s transformation into the anti-racist institution that it is striving to become. He aims to ingrain DEI into NRDC’s culture both internally and externally by fostering more intra- and interoffice inclusion; working internally to make sure all policies and practices are equitable and accessible to all; helping NRDC set the standard for a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace among peer organizations; and finding ways to better engage communities of color in the fight for environmental justice and climate justice.
Riddle has a long and successful track record of DEI-centered work in higher education, coming to NRDC most recently from Albany Law School, where he served as assistant dean of diversity and inclusion. There, he drove the implementation of a strategic plan on diversity, worked to meet the needs of underrepresented populations and people of marginalized identities, and identified the ways and practices by which large institutions can become more inclusive, including culture change.
Prior to that, Riddle was Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he helped put in systems, policies, and programs to promote diversity and multiculturalism among faculty, staff, and students, as well as creating safe spaces for learning and personal growth for students.
Riddle holds a JD from Widener University Delaware Law School and an MBA from Philadelphia University.
